Lamella-rod pattern transition and confinement effects during eutectic growth

چکیده

We present an in situ experimental study of the lamellar-to-rod transition during directional solidification a model eutectic transparent alloy –the succinonitrile-(d)camphor (SCN-DC) system. Coupled-growth patterns, and their morphological transformations upon changes pulling velocity V (3.5?70.0nms?1) were observed real time series flat-wall samples with different thicknesses ? from 15 (thin samples) to 350 µm (thick samples). At relatively large velocity, rod-like patterns formed systematically. In contrast, stable lamellae at sufficiently low regardless sample thickness investigated range. confined-geometry (?=30?140 µm), lamellar over range interphase spacing ? V. The lamella contact walls stabilized against propagative breakup, formation rods was mediated by secondary instabilities such as zigzag mode spatial-oscillation mode. bistable range, hysteresis increasing or decreasing observed, well complex phenomena involving oscillatory, mixed hybrid patterns. (reverse) involved rod elongation instability. A discussion on elementary mechanisms that determine lamellar-rod transition, dependence is initiated.

Phase-field investigation of rod eutectic morphologies under geometrical confinement.

Three-dimensional phase-field simulations are employed to investigate rod-type eutectic growth morphologies in confined geometry. Distinct steady-state solutions are found to depend on this confinement effect with the rod array basis vectors and their included angle (α) changing to accommodate the geometrical constraint. Specific morphologies are observed, including rods of circular cross secti...

Analyzing ways of transition in the pattern of urban growth

Today each city due to natural limitations, facilities and planning policies has different growth pattern which according to its spread, has different consequences and results. Although there is a wide range of urban growth patterns, but the important thing is not diversity and number of models but is the absence of rules and methods of transition from one to another pattern (form). So this art...

Determination of size effects during the phase transition of a nanoscale Au-Si eutectic.

The phase diagram of a nanoscale system can be substantially different than in the bulk, but quantitative measurements have proven elusive. Here we use in situ microscopy to observe a phase transition in a nanoscale system, together with a simple quantitative model to extract the size effects from these measurements. We expose a Au particle to disilane gas, and observe the transition from a two...
